Aqrions are water dragons, and are the Keystone species of Aquella. They are widespread in this aquatic world, and are capable of living practically anywhere.
Aqrion have echolocation, which allows them to quickly navigate their surroundings and chase down their prey. Echolocation is crucial when hunting in parties, especially when out in the open water tracking down massive prey.
Aqrion fin membranes are often a different colour from their bodies. This helps with blending into their surroundings when hiding, but also in attracting a mate. When frightened or threatened, they are able to reduce the pigment of their fin membranes, dulling the colour to a muddy green or making it appear opaque. During the breeding season, Aqrions can pump more blood to their fins therefore making the pigments more vibrant and bright. This also stiffens the membranes, giving them a texture more akin to rubber and making them seem larger.
Aqrion can breathe both in water and air. They are capable of taking in large amounts of water into their lungs, where osmosis of oxygen can occur. They are also capable of breathing through their skin, similar to many amphibians. The waters are quite oxygen rich, making it very easy to obtain oxygen for their bodies. While on land, the climate is a bit more harsh for them. They can enjoy a good bask in the sun, but they need to keep their skin moist to prevent drying out as well as maintaining osmosis of oxygen through their skin.
